Methods of Attaching Hair Extensions
There are several methods to putting in hair extensions and some of them you may wish to get done at a salon instead of attempting them yourself.
Bonding |
The first method involves bonding pieces of hair onto your existing hair. The extensions can be in a colour that very closely matches your existing colour, or in a contrasting shade. While this is a good way to extend your hair without high maintenance, this method of applying hair extensions is very tricky and should definitely be done at your local hairdressing salon.
Braiding

A much less complicated way of adding hair extensions to your hair involves braiding the existing hair around the head in 'tracks'. Then, wefts of human hair are sewn onto these tracks using a needle and thread. The results are very natural-looking and are relatively maintenace free. However, your tracks will need to be re-tightened periodically as they grow out with the hair still attached, and removing the extensions can be complicated. While you can do this at home, it is largely adivsable that you get this done by your hairdresser, as they will be able to make neater tracks around your head. |
Clips-ins
Another way and by far easiest method fro applying hair extensions is using snap-clips. Snap clips are like little hair clips and a comb on them and are easy to use. They are usually used for applying small extensions to your hair for decoration, however, they can be used to apply a whole head of extensions. The weft of hair is usually sewn onto the clip of a similar colour, which come in many different sizes. To apply the hair extensions in this way, simply part the hair where you wish to place the extension and open the clip, combing downward into your hair and snapping the clip shut. |
